Vacations

In 1943 during my school summer vacation I went to my uncles farm which was located about 30 miles outside the town of Sprague Washington. I was nine years old at the time and my mom and dad felt I should spend some time out in the Wild West I guess. We had no electricity but we did have well water, Out house and oil lamps.

I loved the farm and my aunt and uncle and all of the milk cows, along with the chickens and a pig . The farm was about twenty acres and the cows would go out and roam around on it. There was a lot of sage brush and I remember the meadowlarks singing ,chicken hawks flying overhead, and once and a while would dive down and get one of our chickens.

I helped my uncle harvest wheat in the summer on some very hot days. We didn’t have all of the modern equipment at that time like they have today. My uncle had an old Page car he had converted the back end into a pick-up bed and we hauled the milk and cream to town to sell. His old Page was one of the first cars in the Northwest. It wasn’t like the new Jaguar like my son has today. It was very hot and sunny there so I wore my sunglasses a lot of
The time and tried to get a nice tan
Going to go now and I will tell you more about my experiences on the farm in more of my comments. Bye for now DEL
