img_0527.JPGIn 1903 they planted 50 filbert trees which became the first 250 acre filbert farm in the united states. Over the years the farm grew to a production yeild of over 50 tons of nuts anually.Their are 11 orchards on the property, each with a different name. they are also listed in the national historic records.

They also invented the “tipped” method of propagation whereby a sucker tip is bent and burried and the resulting sprout is then harvested and sold. More than half of the trees growing in the united states came from this farm. this ranch is Oregons oldest working filbert farm.

On March 28th I wrote an article about going fishing for sea run cut throat trout. In the article I wrote that I would tell you how to rig your line and what kind of bait to use.

I use 4 pound test line and I put the line thru a slip sinker “ one with a hole in it” then I tie the line to a swivel that has a small safety pin on one end. This will stop the slip sinker from going down all of the way to the hook which will be at the end of the leader. Now I tie a 2 or 3 pound test leader about 20 to 22 inches long to the safety pin end and then I tie a small egg hook to the end of the leader and now you are read to bait your hook

The bait that you use is a secret way to catch large trout. I use Berkley Powerbait Red Power Eggs and a combination of Berkley Powerbait Rainbow trout bait. I put the egg thru the hook and thread it up the line then I roll the rainbow Powerbait into a small ball big enough to cover the egg hook good, and then I slide the egg back down the line until it is tight up against the hook. Now you are ready to catch a big fish .
