Yesterday was Sunday and every Sunday we have a coffee hour from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM. It costs one dollar to attend and if it is your floor of the complex to bring a treat ,then each person does so. I decided to bake a cake and take it. I got a Pillsbury Moist Supreme, reduced sugar devil’s food cake mix 50 percent les sugar made with Splenda. I made the cake according to the directions and let the two nine inch layers cool. While it was cooling I whipped up a pint of whipping cream and put it in the refrigerator to set up. Next i sliced the layers into to make it a four layer cake. Then I put the whipping cream between each layer of cake and on the top. Nex I placed the cake in the refrigerator to set up. My cake was a big success at the coffee hour all of the women thought it was very moist. the dollor is for the coffee however itake my own because i make an iced coffee and I put International Delight Sugar Free Hazelnut creamer in it. and sweetened it with Splenda

The owner that was selling it didn’t know the name of it as there is no name on the reel. I have taken some pictures of it and am hoping some one can identify it for me. thankyou for you help DEL

img_0527.JPGIn 1903 they planted 50 filbert trees which became the first 250 acre filbert farm in the united states. Over the years the farm grew to a production yeild of over 50 tons of nuts anually.Their are 11 orchards on the property, each with a different name. they are also listed in the national historic records.

They also invented the “tipped” method of propagation whereby a sucker tip is bent and burried and the resulting sprout is then harvested and sold. More than half of the trees growing in the united states came from this farm. this ranch is Oregons oldest working filbert farm.

Doris ranch was purchased in 1972 by the Willamette Parl and Recreation District which operates it as a non profit organization.
