Old Page Car

In my article about summer on the farm I mentioned about the old Page car that my uncle owned. To start the car you had to go out in front of the car take a crank and spin it around hard to try to start the car. However the first thing to do was to set the magneto to the proper position on the steering column before you went up front to turn the crank. when the car started then my uncle would run around to the maginot adjuster on the steering column and set it to the position that would keep the spark advanced to the proper position so the car would run smooth.

Now we were ready to go. the shifter was on the floor so he would put it in low gear , let out the clutch and away we would go. then shifting into second gear and on into third gear.

The windshield was made of glass but the two side door windows were made of icing glass. Was kind of like flexible plastic thin and kind of foggy to look thru. The car didn’t go very fast, but it did get us to where we wanted to go.
